Yarmouth School District LAU Plan

A Lau plan protects ELLs and ensures their right to access equal education under the landmark Lau vs. Nichols U.S. Supreme Court Decision of 1974.

Yarmouth Schools Lau Plan –

Yarmouth Schools is committed to providing curricular, instructional and other related services to “Empower All Students to Create Fulfilling Lives in a Changing World”. To accomplish this for students with English Language Learner (ELL) needs, Yarmouth Schools will implement its Lau Plan, which details the procedural requirements and services to be provided to students with English language acquisition needs.

The Language Assessment Committee (LAC) facilitates the process for identification and programming for students who are limited in English proficiency. The LAC coordinates and oversees the education program of ELL students during the school year. The LAC is usually comprised of the ESL teacher, the classroom teacher, the school Instructional Strategist, the ELL’s parents, and any other concerned parties.
